The East Midlands Model show 2011
British Summer Time has arrived. And so we enter the second quarter of the year. And the second quarter of the modelling calendar. The first of the shows to be attended is The East Midlands Model Show,or more commonly referred to as The Hinckley show due to venues location.
So with the advent of one hours less sleep and recovering from E-Coli,i trundled down the M6 to Hinckley and the Leisure Centre that is the venue for the show.I arrived at around 0820 and parked in the overflow car park very easily as there was no one else there.A short walk to the side entrance and into the hall i went.As usual with Hinckley everything was laid out very nicely with labels for each and every club attending. This year i was committed not only to Coventry and Warks IPMS,but also 580 Modellers.Having set up and said my hello's to everyone,i set about my first walk around.
My first port of call was to visit Ted Taylor.Ted is known the world over for his model making and helpful conversation in all thing modelling.Ted had a vast array of 1/32 types on display, which included some lovely Tornadoes and Lightnings.(Images below).Next was 580 Modellers.Dave Eccles had brought along a very fine example of the Aeroclub 1/48th Vulcan B2.This kit is £330 before assembly. And i think you would agree,Dave has done this justice.Next i generally walked around chatting to various traders which included Mr Models.Later it was upstairs to the competition area. Here i thought it was not as well stocked with entries as years gone by.However the standard in most cases was very high.
Ok onto our own stand at Coventry and Warks. With the lack of sleep i think everyone was taking turns in Pauls nice new chair, that his wife had bought him.I think Paul should rent it out in future.
Ivor had a very nice Hind on display and had opened the engine covers which added to the finesse of the finished model. Also if i am correct a very nice Centurion as well.
Now who produced the "Sea Shell Lady" mmm.Was it our new leader?.I am told her sea shells are removable.I was waiting for Terry Dawe to see if this was true.Joking aside a very nice effort indeed.
Bargain of the day,is awarded to a rather smug James Maher(myself) which is the PJ Hunter in 1/72.I purchased this from Alan Reeves for the princely sum of £8.Cliff nearly bit my hand off to get this. But sorry this is mine.
Summing up i have mixed feeling about the show.I did very much enjoy myself, but thought that numbers may have been down on last year.A subject for debate maybe.
Ok lastly let the images do the talking, with narratives as appropriate.
