Shawbury departures 13 June 2011

                                                         THE REDS DEPART

Following the RAF Cosford show the previous weekend, myself and the goodly wife ventured up to RAF Shawbury to watch the departure of the Red Arrows. Why Shawbury you may ask.Well due to the length of the runway at Cosford,Shawbury is always used by the majority of jets attending Cosford to display as a refuel point. Also although aircraft could land,Shawbury is more equipped to deal with aircraft landing in wet conditions.

Arriving early afternoon,as i knew the Reds were departing at 14.00 local.I ventured around the far side of Shawbury to where they were lined up.At around 13.30 the first signs of life emerged as the technicians in blue prepared the aircraft. Then at 14.00 on the dot the first aircraft moved out.To my suprise there were only Eight aircraft as there had been a undercarriage problem with one of the aircraft the previous weekend. This i have to confirm as it was told to me third hand. The visual result was the aircraft took of as singles and as a Three.Which is something i have never seen before.

For those of you that plan to do the 1/32nd Revell Hawk here are some images for you of the day below.

Later in the day as i was about to leave Three Chinooks arrived from the US Army. They had flown from Dublin and arrived for a refuel and then on to Lakenheath or Mildenhall and then the final leg to Germany. The helicopters were from F Co 159th Regt Giebelstadt.I am informed that these said aircraft are due to be scrapped soon.I have some images below for you to see.The very weathered paint work would make an excellent model in 1/48th.
