Sutton Coldfield 2011 IPMS Show

                                                                Sutton Coldfield 2011
What can one say that has not been said about the Sutton Coldfield show.Everyone i ever speak to holds this show in such high regard. This year was no exception.

This show is held on an annual basis at the town hall in Sutton Coldfield.A very majestic place with ornate sculptures adorning the ceilings.

This year i arrived with the good wife and another modeller Terry Walton. For us it was a short 20 minute drive cross town.Which suits me fine, as with others i always hate the long journeys home after a show after having walked around 10 times routing through boxes for a bargain..Having parked up outside at 08.15 it was through  to find our tables. As per normal my loyalties were split between 580 Modellers and Coventry and Warks IPMS.This year 580 Modellers were given a great spot next to the bar "Get in".However Coventry were in the back room which to be honest was very good with plenty of lighting for all.

Having set up and drunk my first cup of tea,it was off to see what was on offer.Well this year proved good for me,and within five minutes i had spent £50 on a Tamiya JS3 Stalin,,a Dragon M51 Isherman and a little Tamiya Semovente M40-75/18.It was then back to tell the wife oops!!!!

Traders wise this year saw the regular names, such as Phil Mitchell who was doing a roaring trade.Chris Summers of Kits-Kits.Freight Dog and others.

Competition wise saw a mass of entries, which proved a little to much for the table space allocated. But true as normal, this was sorted out with the precision that Sutton has become well for.I have posted some images below for you all to see.I was very pleased this year to see awards given to both Coventry and Warks IPMS and 580 Modellers.Those members were Will Williams,Steve Lockhart of Coventry and Warks.Rob Cookson and Dave Foxall of 580 Modellers.Well done indeed to you all.

At this juncture i would like to pay tribute to George Wright of Sutton Coldfield.George passed away fairly recently and the club had made a special presentation of his exceptional work of Air Racers.I have placed the images below for you to see.George was also the man who made so many B-24 Liberator formation aircraft. These are  exceptional to,and i have been informed that the family have these placed at the Norwich Museum.

Lastly i would like to dedicate this report to  George and also my dear Mother-in-Law and little freind who passed into Heaven this day to be with others.May both your lifes be happy in the afterlife, and i will join you one day for a cup of tea.

Thankyou Sutton Coldfield IPMS for another cracking show.
