A week ago today we witnessed another of the Government cuts with the first of the Dominies to go to a museum after their disbandment. The aircraft chosen was XS709 M the oldest aircraft of the fleet.
After receiving a phone call a couple of days prior,i made my way to RAF Cosford on a cold Friday morning to await the arrival. As planned XS709 arrived almost on time at 11.32.She gave all of us standing on the railway platform by the threshold a fly by.And then a missed appraoch. And finally a very nice landing.
It was sad to see one of the oldest remaining aircraft retire. But at least she has not fallen foul of the axeman.
I am told that the remainder will be up for tender. And that one other should be on her way to Shawbury this very week, possibly by road.
I intend to build XS709 very soon and will provide you with an online report.Just a matter of finding the model in my never ending loft.
Here are a couple of images of the day.The quality is not top knotch as the sun was direct into our faces.
