The second and third of July saw the annual R.A.F Waddington airshow in the county of Lincolnshire UK.A long established event that has over the years seen many many aircraft from far flung places as Israel and Turkey.I have always tried to support this great event having lived there as a child and later being based there in 1989-1990.
This year the organisers certainly came up trumps, considering the present situation our N.A.T.O forces find themselves in.The events team attracted the likes of the massive KDC-10 from the Netherlands. And not One but a total of Five Typhoons from The UK,Germany JG73 and 36 Stormo Italy.
I was very privileged and honoured this year to be granted a press pass in connection with a long term project i am doing. So after a short delay getting in thanks to our Lincolnshire Police i arrived at the Press tent at 08.10 and duly signed in.The next step was meeting up with Ray Ball from the club.I found Ray in his prime position for the days coming events in the front seats.Ray then informed me that a coach would be laid on to transport the media to the flight line within the next five minutes. So with camera we all boarded the coach and made are way via the active runway to the V.A.S (Visiting Aircraft Section). In years gone by when i was a child this area formed the parking area for the Vulcan Q.R.A and IX Sqn Vulcans.I felt very nostalgic at this point,as i worked out it had been some Twenty years since i crossed the runway as an airman.Arriving on the flightline we were given a very generous Twenty minutes to view the display aircraft. To me i was like a kid in a sweety shop.Amongst the line were some of my favourite aircraft.Hunters by the bucket load. The mighty Tornado GR4.Although getting on in years a potent weapon in anyones arsenal.Amongst the jets were the props and a lovely OV-10B in German markings. As a point of interest Germany purchased some of these to use a target tugs some moons ago.But this one is now privately owned.A great aircraft for modelling in these colours i think. We just need a decent kit or patience, which is something i lack in abundance.
The photographs below show what was on display. And from a modelling view show what can be done mostly with the Hunter. One of the most iconic aircraft in history.Displayed are some of the aircraft used by "Team Viper" amongst them an FGA9,T7 and GA11.All beautiful like an elegant lady.I was only thinking today if i had won the Euromillions i would have the lot. Then i came back down to reality.I have also included images of the Tornado's and the Boz107 and Sky Shadow pods. And lastly the Bomblet Dispenser.
For those of you that like the Hawk.I have included a couple of images of Flt Lt Jules Flemings jet.I will be speaking to Gary Madgewick of Model Alliance soon to ask him if he may consider doing a 1/32 sheet of this aircraft. You never know what may happen.Lastly i have included the Tucano,Kingair,Fennec and Yak52 for you.
My sincere thanks must go to the Media Office at Raf Waddington for making my visit possible in connection with my project.
