HELP FOR HEROES 2011 MODEL SHOW.

HELP  FOR HEROES MODEL SHOW 2011

On Sunday the 31st of July. The Griffin Public House just outside of Rugby, hosted the 2011 Help for Heroes Model Show. This is the second year for the show and is organised by Steve Roberts of Coventry and Warks Model Club. And supported by Simon the landlord of the Griffin in a very generous way.

And so it was that on Sunday i made the short trip down to Rugby, arriving at around 08.30 to be met by the other clubs that had been invited to display. Those included Coventry and Warks IPMS.The Vietnam SIG.Leicester Modellers and the What -If SIG.After the clubs had set up and settled, it was time for breakfast. For the second year "Mein host" came up trumps again with 15 Breakfasts and 2 sets of toast.Just right to set you up for the day.Thankyou Simon and the lovely Chef.

Back to business late morning we had the arrival of the Spartan from the Alvis Boys just down the road. And Pete R with his Dodge. This is the second year the guys have supported the venue and our thanks go to them. The Spartan and Dodge received alot of attention with keen modellers taking detail shots with their various cameras.

Around  midday the public started to come and we laid on an area where children could make a model. This was very well supported with no less than 6 children at one point beavering away, with the support of Kev Wilson from the Vietnam SIG.Richard Brooker from Coventry and Warks. And Mark Watkins also of Coventry and Warks.

Later in the day around 4pm things died down and we progressed on to a BBQ laid on by the Griffin Pub.50p of each burger sold has gone to Help for Heroes. We are deeply indebted to Simon for his kind gesture.Every penny goes to help our troops, who richly deserve this help.

I myself left early evening to return home to Birmingham.I would like to say i had a great day for a great cause.Being an ex serviceman this is very dear to my heart.I almost every day see the devastation and suffering of what these wars bring,as i live right next to the QE Hospital Birmingham. Most of these guys are only 19-24 i would say.And they have many years ahead of them.

My sincere thanks for all the support for this event. And i would like to conclude by mentioning those who gave of their time to attend.Alan Brown.Keith Jones.Martin Connelly of Leicester Modellers.Kev Wilson and Ann Partington of the Vietnam SIG.Richard Brooker of What-If SIG.And all the guys of Coventry and Warks IPMS.And The Alvis Boys.Well done.

Here are some images of the day. Please note all images of Minors were taken with permission from Parents or Guardians. And are the express copyright of James P Maher.

A model report has to include Phantoms its the law.And these fine examples were from Kev Wilson on the Vietnam SIG.

I always like models that show a story. And looking into this it certainly did.

These were new to the Vietnam SIG. The mighty Crusader. In alot of ways better than the Phantom.

This inspired me greatly
